WHAT IS THE BMRP? The BMRP is the acronym for the Book Mobile Reading Program. It is a mobile library that De La Salle Lipa brings to public elementary schools primarily around the Province of Batangas.
WHY 100 TRIPS? In fulfillment of the Lasallian mission, and in celebration of 100 Years of the Lasallian Presence in the Philippines, De La Salle Lipa hopes to complete 100 BMRP trips before June 2012.
WHO RUNS THE BMRP? Primarily, the BMRP is coordinated by the Community Involvement Office (CIO) of De La Salle Lipa. Various tasks in each trip, however, are generously performed by volunteers from various sectors of the academic community who donate their time so that the mission may be served and the program may become a success.
WHAT ARE THESE TASKS? In every BMRP trip, the following tasks are performed by volunteers:
orienting elementary school students on how to borrow books from the mobile library;
assisting young elementary students who have been identified to be slow readers; and
facilitating film showing and storytelling sessions with the public school students.
HOW MAY ALUMNI/AE PARTICIPATE? Alumni/ae may participate in the following manner:
Interested alumni/ae who wish to join trips as individuals may be assigned to storytelling groups made up of volunteer employees and/or students.
If alumni/ae can form a party of 5, they may be assigned one storytelling group.
One BMRP trip may be assigned to a whole class or batch of alumni/ae if at least 25 of them are willing to make a commitment to join one trip.
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST TO PARTICIPATE? There will be no costs to alumni/ae volunteers other than what it will take to bring yourselves to the assigned school for the day.
WHEN MAY ALUMNI/AE PARTICIPATE? Groups of 5 may already be assigned to join scheduled BMRP trips this September 2010. Classes or batches of alumni/ae may be scheduled beginning October after due communication with the Community Involvement Office. Interested alumni/ae will please note that all BMRP trips are made on school days.
