"Technology in Nation-Building," - this year's theme for the 9th SWEEP (Smart Wireless Engineering Education Program) Innovation and Excellence Award, relates to the winning entry of the BS ECE students Neil Joseph B. Solis, Kevin Michael F. Bautista, and Nico Ayelle C. Maralit. The team's android application, titled "S.M.A.R.T." or "System Market Application for Real-Time Trading," was designed to promote convenience in doing one's groceries. Through "S.M.A.R.T." application, items to be purchased may be selected and paid using the mobile phone, and pick them up later at the supermarket. This revolutionary application got De La Salle Lipa's team the 2nd runner-up title. Likewise, the group won the Smart Developer Award for Best Android Mobile Application. The winning team was accompanied by their mentor, Engr. Robert G. de Luna, De La Salle Lipa SWEEP Coordinator, at the awarding ceremony on February 14, 2013 at Dusit Thani Hotel, Makati City. Aside from S.M.A.R.T., another entry from DLSL made it as national finalist. The "Automatic Detection of Traffic Density" by Mark Joseph Balines, Dario Bolor, Erika Canubas, Bon Joey Ladislao, and Lawrence Villapando was one of the top ten entries. This application enables one to view in real-time the traffic condition in a specific location through image processing or text message (for mobile units without image processing application). Share
