After emerging as champion in Palarong Pambansa 2013 held April 21-27 in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, the volleyball boys secondary team of De La Salle Lipa that represented the Calabarzon region, were sent to Vietnam to participate in the 5th Asean Schools Game (ASG).

As a first time participant in the volleyball boys event, the team placed second runner-up. This years champions were the Indonesians who were composed of six footer players. Thais placed first runner-up led by their seven footer player.

The Indonesian coach was amazed with the DLSL players tenacity despite the lack in height. The players managed to earn the trust and respect of the winning Asian coaches.

The Philippine boys volleyball team members from DLSL were Reneil Roxas, Derick Delizo, Lawrence Magadia, Jerard De Castro, Levin Dimayuga, Kit Canobas and Joshua Diaz. Selected players from other provinces were Mark Petancia and Ulyross Lopez from Cebu; from Batangas Province, Nikko Ortega; players from Cavite were John Rivera and Jopet Movido; and winning coaches were Rosel Sumcad and Peter Perez.

Vietnam, the host country for this years tournament landed on top of the rankings with a total of 100 medals (50 gold - 27 silver - 23 bronze), followed by Malaysia 85 (25-30-30), Thailand 88 (24-31-33), Indonesia 72 (18-27-27), Singapore 28 (8-5-15), Laos 8 (0-3-5), Brunei 10 (0-2-8), and Philippines 3 (0-0-3).

Despite the countrys standing, Filipinos are optimistic that the next ASG will favor them since it shall be hosted by the Philippines in December 2014.
