Batch 2017: Driving What's Next, Moving Ahead

At the 29th Commencement Exercises of De La Salle Lipa on June 9, 2017, a total of 1,497 Lasallians were conferred their respective degrees or certificates.

The SENTRUM was packed with parents and well-wishers who were beaming with pride the entire event as they witnessed dreams unfold before their eyes.

The first session in the morning included the College of Education, Arts and Sciences; College of Information Technology and Engineering; and College of Nursing.

Engr. Aisa Alvarez Mijeno (DLSL Computer Engineering, Batch 2006), Co-Founder of the Sustainable Alternative Lighting Corporation (SALt) graced the morning graduation rites for the commencement address.

The young Lasallian alumna's empowering words reflected how driven and strong-willed start-up genius she is. Her advice to be a "fast learner, resilient, creative and resourceful," is a testament of the primary characteristics the millennials should be equipped with. After the training in college, the true battle begins and that "true success means all the battle scars you will earn," she pointed out. Likewise, success is "about finding meaning to your life," thus, "surrender yourselves to the power of possibilities. Have the courage and ambition above all to do something about your knowledge" for "you are the future."

Meanwhile, the second session included the College of Business, Economics, Accountancy and Management; College of International Hospitality and Tourism Management; and College of Law.

Mr. Emmanuel Montenegro De Ocampo, Chairman of FILREMIT Corporation and Board of Director of the Foundation for Sharing Lasallian Education, shared his time and inspiring message at the conclusion of the graduation rites.

The full-blooded Lasallian entrepreneur generously imparted valuable tips as a successful businessman. Although he was a typical clueless graduate back then, he learned to conquer challenges on his own. "Always persevere, pray and network," was his top three guide to a fulfilling career. He wished he knew this basic formula after graduation but then the circumstances presented alternative opportunities, nonetheless. After receiving quality education from a top-notch school, he is still a firm believer that "God is the true teacher."

After the insightful messages by the mentors, magna cum laude, Karla B. Alday (BS Industrial Engineering) and Kathren Kelly A. Bobadilla (BS Business Administration major in Marketing Management), spoke before their peers, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon, respectively.

Their overwhelming emotions were apparent in their appearance and message. Ecstatic with their recent milestone, they only have deepest gratitude to the institution and faculty members who "brought out the best" in them. But despite their major scholastic accomplishment, they have apprehension of what is waiting for them outside the walls of the school. But after "surviving sleepless nights" and hurdling obstacles along the way with flying colors, they are ready to embark on a new journey with new challenges to face and overcome.

It had been quite a ride for these Lasallians after a worthwhile educational expedition. It is now time to reap the fruits of their labor. Below are the awardees of Batch 2017.
