ORP releases third issue of Integrated School research journal

The third research journal of the Integrated School (IS) was released last June 2016.

Out of twenty-seven (27) full papers that were completed by the Integrated School faculty and librarian for SY 2015-2016, seven (7) were included in the IS research journal after undergoing peer review process.

The paper  "Leadership Styles of De La Salle Lipa Middle Level Administrators" written by Ms. Haidee M. Angeles investigated the leadership style of 30 middle level administrators of De La Salle Lipa and found out that most of the administrators used transformational style of leadership.

Mr. Wenifredo Angeles' paper, "Social Loafing in the High School Classroom" looked into the state of social loafing phenomenon in the classroom and identified appropriate strategy to address this problem. The findings revealed that the social loafing - reducing strategies include: 1) making groups smaller, 2) using peer evaluation instrument, 3) combining individual and group grading, 4) distributing different talent/skills in different group and 5) executing close supervision of group work activities.

To determine the difference in reading comprehension performance of grade 6 pupils in Social Studies using the first and second language, Ms. Rosalinda D. Cornejo studied the "Reading Comprehension Performance of Grade 6 in Social Studies using Informative Text in Filipino (L1) and English (L2)". Results of the research showed that there’s no significant difference in the comprehension of grade 6 pupils using either the first or the second language.

Economics teacher, Ms. Eva G. Jonson focused on "Enhancing the Interpersonal Skills of Grade 10 Students in Economics Class through Structured Cooperative Works". Her paper aimed to enhance the interpersonal skills of Grade 10 students through structured cooperative activities. It was found out that the students have mastery in the use of leadership skills, trust building skills and turn taking skills but are not yet accustomed in decision making skills and active listening skills. Based on the result, the researcher was able to develop different cooperative works that will improve the students' interpersonal skills.

Two researches were written in Filipino by Ms. Rizza R. Limbo and Ms. Leah Sebuc entitled "Mga Hamon sa Pangkatang Gawain sa Filipino 5: Rekomendasyon sa Pagpapaunlad ng Output sa Asignatura"  and "Ebalwasyon ng Pluma sa Pagsulat sa Pagpapaunlad ng Kasanayan  ng mga Mag-aaral sa Ikaanim na Baitang" respectively. Their papers' summaries are as follows:

"Tinalakay sa papel ni Ms. Limbo ang mga suliranin sa pagsasagawa ng pangkatang gawain sa Filpino 5. Mula sa pag-aaral, lumabas na ang pangunahing suliranin  sa pagsasagawa ng pangkatang gawain ay  ang pagkakaroon ng kampihan sa loob ng grupo. Mula sa natuklasang suliranin nabuo ang sumusunod na mga rekomendasyon: pagkakaroon ng indibidwal na rubric para sa bawat miyembro, pagtatalaga ng guro ng mga gawaing dapat gawin ng miyembro, pagkakaroon ng iba’t ibang miyembro sa bawat pangkatang gawain at pagkakaroon ng ebalwasyon sa bawat pangkatang gawain."

"Samantala ang papel ni Ms. Sebuc ay nakatuon sa ebalwasyon ng programang PLUMA sa pagsulat ng mga mag-aaral. Nagkaroon ng pagsusuri ng mga sulatin ng mga mag-aaral sa ikaanim  na baitang upang matukoy ang mga kasanayan sa pagsulat na mahina ang mga mag-aaral. Mula sa mga natukoy na kasanayang dapat linangin nagkaroon ng interbensyon sa pamamagitan ng programang PLUMA at mula rito ay natuklasang naging epektibo ang programa sa paglinang ng kasanayan sa pagsulat ng mga mag-aaral."

Ms. Analiza A. Frane, Integrated School librarian, studied the "Reading Profile and Motivation of DLSL Grade 7 Students". Her study determined the reading preferences in English of DLSL Grade 7 students, the motivating factor in reading English materials. The research found out that 33.8% of the total 340 Grade 7 students is medium-heavy readers and that they have high motivation in reading.
