DLSL-Led Team Reclaims Major Title in Palarong Pambansa
Victorious delegations of De La Salle Lipa went home with major titles and special awards after a rewarding engagement at the recently concluded Palarong Pambansa 2017 in Antique.

The DLSL-led Calabarzon Secondary Volleyball Girls Team reclaimed its championship title after reigning the said event back in the 90's. Calabarzon defeated no less than the defending champions, NCR, as they came from behind to win in five sets, 19-25, 11-25, 25-16, 25-16, 15-9. Members of the team, Alleiah Jan Malaluan-Best Blocker, Mary Mirgie Bautista, Yvonne Cyrah Humarang, Kimberly Adajar, Janel Maraguinot, and Jamie Margaret Frago composed the DLSL delegation, with selected players Alyssa Jae Solomon (UPHS-Bian)-MVP and Best Opposite Spiker, May Ann Nuique (Mater School), Maria Fe Galanza (SPRCN), Joyce Lanugan (SPRCN), and Shere Sambajon (SPRCN), completed the selection. Coaches, Regine Diego and Pedro Perez Jr., led the team.

Two more DLSL-led Calabarzon volleyball teams earned awards in the national tournament, the Elementary Boys and Girls. Bronze medalist elementary boys, composed of DLSL players Brent Edward Maralit, Jomari Diaz, Chris Emmanuel Hernandez, Jeremi Pierre Cuenca, and Kris Gabriel Hernandez, were joined by players, Tory Asufre (San Sebastian Elem. School Lipa City), King Edward Herbosa (Tiayani Elem. School, Calamba City), Christian Eron Lardizabal (Bats. East Central School, Batangas Province), Simon Charles Banavidez (Pacita Complex Elem. School, Laguna), and Rakishi Alejandrei Gacula (Pacita Complex Elem. School, Laguna). The team's coaches were Jerome Guhit and Ian Landicho.

The elementary girls' team with coach, Imelda A. Mendoza, and trainer, Imelda A. Mendoza, is another bronze medalist. Members, Lira Angela Magaling - Best Opposite Spiker, Alyanna Margueitte Rocafort, Ayeesha Sandrine Atienza, Gabriel Therese Reyes, Verenicce Colendra, and Francesca Sofia Rodriguez, from DLSL were joined by Alliana Jacel A. Paragas (Nuestra Seora de Aranzazu Parochial School-Rizal), Maryell Denize C. Landicho (Green Land Academy-Rizal), Mary Coleen S. Sumaysay (Laguna) - Best Blocker, Kristina Andrea G. Mina (Batangas), and Carlyn Jeanne P. Nicolas (Imus) - Best Outside Hitter.

Meanwhile, selected Green Chevron player, John Mark Ronquillo, joined the Calabarzon Secondary Volleyball Boys team, led by the University of Perpetual Help System-Bian. The team clinched the top award as Ronquillo received the Best Blocker title.

Finally, completing this year's DLSL Palaro titlists are the Green Chevron swimmers who paddled their way to several awards.  Ani Danya Ona earned three medals, silver for 4x100 Medley Relay, bronze for 100 Meter Breaststroke, and bronze for 4x50 Medley Relay. Palaro regular, Ethan Go, received bronze for 200M Breaststroke and broke the time record in the same event of last year's winner. Two more swimmers received their award; Robin Luise Tolentino earned a silver for the 200M Individual Medley and Gabrielle Madelaine Gonzalvo got a bronze for the 4x50 Meter Medley Relay.

Indeed, it was a sweet victory for the Green Chevrons after enduring rigorous training and sacrifices to face the country's toughest players.



Victorious Green Chevrons at the Unigames
Three Green Chevron teams successfully conquered various titles in the recent Philippine University Games or Unigames, hosted by Dumaguete City on October 25-27, 2016.

The Badminton Men and Women's teams won major and minor titles in the following events: Women's Team, Champion - Samantha Andrea R. Citron, Jona Mae A. Iuanillo, Sharina Drew M. Lnatoc, and Nichole Joyce D. Trinidad; Men's Team, Champion - Mac Lawrence M. Marfa, Jayce N. Moral, Zildjian Quevada, and Kyle Jason D. Trinidad.

Badminton winners in the individual events: Men's Singles, Champion - Mac Lawrence M. Marfa and First Runners-Up - Kyle Jason P. Trinidad and Zildjian Quevada; Women's Singles, Champion - Jona Mae Juanillo, First Runner-Up - Samantha Andrea R. Citron, and Second Runner-Up - Nichole Joyce D. Trinidad. The team was accompanied by their coach, Rod Baldovino.

Meanwhile, the Green Chevrons Taekwondo team likewise garnered awards with the following winners: Bronze medalists, Seth Jairo Macaraig, Joshua Nera, and Celina Gilmo; and silver medalists, Hann Abitan and Jaime Bianzon III. Coach, Johnearl Abante, headed the team.

Another group that earned its award was the Table Tennis, recipient of bronze medal. They were led by their coach, Mercy Lescano.

Unigames, a Visayas-based league, was established in 1996 by the late Br. Rolando Dizon FSC, then president of University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City. The tournament includes several events such as athletics, badminton, basketball, football, chess, karatedo, lawn tennis, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, and beach volleyball.




Visit of the Superior General to DLSL
The Lasallian Family in the Philippines is glad to welcome the Superior General of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, Br. Robert Schieler FSC, Ed.D., to the country for his first pastoral visit from July 16 to 25, 2016. He will be visiting the different Brothers' Communities and most of the Lasallian schools in the country to meet the members of the different sectors of our schools: Brothers, students, teachers, parents, alumni and other Lasallian partners.

As a Lasallian community, let us welcome Br. Bob Schieler FSC on his pastoral visit to De La Salle Lipa on July 18, 2016, Monday, from 2:00 to 3:00 pm. All partners should be in green La Salle shirt and jeans on this day and are expected to be at the Sentrum at 1:40 pm.

Vocation Celebration at DLSL
The annual vocation promotion of De La Salle Lipa kicked off with a celebration of the Holy Eucharist held on August 1, 2014 by His Excellency Archbishop Ramon Arguelles together with Fr. Julius Lacaran, the vocation Director of the Archdiocese.

A whole-day activity on August 22, Vocation Day, took place starting with an early mass with the Minor seminary priests and seminarians at 6:30 AM and another at 9:00 AM with alumni priest Fr. Tonio Umali and Fr. Rufino Macasaet, CSSR. A room to room vocation campaign ensued as 40 priests and religious joint efforts to encourage the graduating students to consider taking the same path they did. The day ended with an invitational basketball match between the priests and selected DLSL faculty members.  The priests won the match by a small margin.

The culminating activity took place on August 30 with a forum and concelebrated mass at the SENTRUM led once again by His Excellency Archbishop Ramon Arguelles.



Victorious Culinary Cup Debut for LICA
Students of the Lipa Institute of Culinary Arts clashed head to head with budding and professional chefs in the country at the 2014 Philippine Culinary Cup, held August 6-9, 2014 at the SMX Convention Center Philippines.

Their debut at the only endorsed competition by the World Association of Chefs Societies proved to be a rewarding experience for LICA students Monica Marie O. Gutierrez, Jessamuel G. Pidlaoan, Rescy R. Manguiat, Juvelyn B. De Guzman, and Coach Chef Pamela de Leon after being adjudged winners in the Dream Team category. These first-time participants received a bronze medal for the overall preparation and presentation of their appetizer, entree and dessert.

The 5th Philippine Culinary Cup: Where the Best Meet to Compete, drew hundreds of participants from five-star hotels, prestigious restaurants, reputable culinary schools, and other respectable establishments in the food industry. All were judged by globally recognized and renowned personalities who have made names in the same field.

Dimacuha, Champion in International Tour Guiding
Vanetti Mutya Dimacuha, a 3rd year BS Tourism Management student, won 1st place in International Tour Guiding Competition at the recently concluded 8th Annual Tourism Congress and National Tourism Skills Competition organized by UFTE, held last February 27-28, 2014 at the Our Lady -of Fatima University, Quezon City.  

UFTE or Union of Filipino Tourism Educators is a professional organization whose missions are to unite all schools, colleges and universities with tourism training programs, to develop students for a productive and meaningful career in tourism and to sponsor lectures, seminars, workshops and conferences in various fields of tourism.

Other BS Tourism student representatives from De La Salle Lipa also won in the following categories: Marien Faye Rosales (4th year) won 4th place in the Domestic Tour Guiding Competition; Jan Denise Aguila (3rd year), Karl Lyn Sermonia (1st year) and Bravery Suazo (1st year) won 5th place in the poster and slogan making competition, and; Areeya Michaela Cosico (3rd year) won 10th place in the Tourism Quiz Bee. This annual national skills competition was participated by 33 schools all over the Philippines.

Another highlight of the 8th Annual Tourism Congress, with the theme "Earth Our Home, Water Our Life", is the talk from Commissioner Yeb Sao, a Filipino climate change commissioner, environmentalist, philosopher, nature lover, and peace activitist. He is the chief negotiator in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). He serves as the Chair of the UNFCCCs Long Term Finance Work Programme. He discussed climate change and how the Filipinos can create positive change through tourism. He also emphasized that our actions today can shape our future and that climate change is a serious threat to humanity. He even highlighted the promotion of environmental sustainability and reducing risk for climate change.

Acting as coach of the DLSL delegation is Ms. Andrenelyn Varona, Tourism Department Chairperson of CIHTM.  The congress was also attended by tourism faculty members and Students Tourism Society (STS) officers.








Suarez, Perez, medalists in Intl Mathematics
Vincent Angelo Suarez, grade 6 and Angelo Vince Perez, grade 5, were among the Philippines delegates who reaped silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the International Mathematics Competition (IMC) held in Singapore on August 2-5, 2013.

Suarez, despite his age, may be considered a veteran in international competitions. His track record shows that he was a bronze medalist in the IMC 2010, silver medalist in 2011 and 2012, and a silver medalist in the International Mathematics and Science Olympiad in 2012; aside from the local competitions where he collected several medals and trophies in group and individual mathematics competitions.

Perez, a newbie in an international contest, proved worthy to be one of the countrys representatives. As another math whiz, he has also gone through several local competitions to meet the requirements before facing international contenders.

According to the Mathematics Trainers Guild Philippines, this years IMC revived the ranking of the country, placing number one overall after besting the long-time top contender China which ranked second, while Singapore third. Succeeding ranks are as follows: Taiwan, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Iran, Hong Kong, and India.

The Philippines was represented by 232 delegates and gathered 23 gold medals, 45 silver and 95 bronze.
