De La Salle Lipa (DLSL), in coordination with Teatro Lasalyano, DLSL’s Community Involvement Office, Pantawid Parent Groups, Barangay Tibig (DLSL’s adopted community) community leaders, youth groups, and its senior citizen sector, garnered second place in Balintataw Teatro ng mga Mamamayan: Community Theater Development Contest, a regional competition involving various communities from Region IV-A. The awarding ceremony was held on March 2, 2018 at the Sen. Jose Diokno Auditorium.
The said competition was spearheaded by DSWD Region IV-A and aimed to capacitate communities in CALABARZON in communicating local development issues through drama.
The drama presented by DLSL and the beneficiary community, “Kumpol”, focused on environmental protection. It was directed by Genelyn Villaverde, the president of Teatro Lasalyano, together with Brgy. Tibig residents, Teatro Lasalyano performers, and the organization’s artistic director Mr. Rhon Kenneth Mercado.
“Kumpol” is a story about how a cluster of dirt and trashes within Brgy. Tibig affects the lives of its residents. Moreover, instead of hosting the play traditionally (onstage), the organization combined traditional and contemporary theater by holding the drama within the barangay hall of Brgy. Tibig. This was to encourage the audience to witness and participate in the aforementioned play.
The cast and the production team of “Kumpol” included the residents of Barangay Tibig, namely Jenalyn Copiado, Rosalinda Baroja, Teresita Silva, Julita Valencia, Hadji De Torres, Charo Azuela and Julia Kalaw and members of Teatro Lasalyano: Genelyn Villaverde, Darlene Berana, Caseka Tongol, Ian Araño, Trisha Raymundo, Ivory Bermoy and Jezzy Sarroza.
A cash prize of Php30,000 was awarded to DLSL and its beneficiary community.
