De La Salle Lipa’s (DLSL) Elementary students grabbed several top places at the 2018 Metrobank – MTAP DepEd Math Challenge held at the Rafael M. Lojo Elementary School and De La Salle Lipa on January 18, 2018 (Written Exam) and February 9, 2018 (Oral Mental Computation), respectively.
Organized by the Metrobank Foundation, Inc. (MBFI), the Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines (MTAP) and the Department of Education (DepEd), it aims to widen students’ interest on Mathematics in both private and public schools all over the country. It is also a show of mastery and excellence through a competition between schools.
The event was divided into two challenges: a written exam and an Oral Mental Examination.
For the written exam, all groups of three from Grades 1 to 6 attained a very commendable first place: Kiara Lumbres, Rebben Felix and Sophio Sosito (Grade 1); Harry Perez, Aecus Mendoza and Gabriel Gonzales (Grade 2); Gilliene Urrea, Immanuel Quinto and Maria Silvederio (Grade 3); Reuben Felix, Aiden Bercilla and Maru Robles (Grade 4); Naomi Uy, Lorenz Briones and Aldren Dungo (Grade 5); and Alex Andal, Jirhome Paglinawan and Divine Yabut (Grade 6).
Meanwhile, for the Oral Mental Examination, garnering 3rd runner-up spots were Rebben Felix and Sophia Sosito (Grade 1) and Alex Andal and Divine Yabut (Grade 6), respectively. Ranking 2nd runner-up, on the other hand, were Gilliene Urrea and Immanuel Quinto (Grade 3). Naomi Uy and Lorenz Briones (Grade 5), meanwhile, landed as 1st runner-up. Finally, coming in as champions were Reuben Felix and Aiden Bercilla (Grade 4).
All of these were made possible under the coaching of Ms. Cristy Hernandez, Ms. Rhea Pecayo, Ms. Daycel Alon, Ms. Elevy De Castro, Ms. Ernie Saculo, Ms. Leonie Landicho and Mr. Dennis Dimaala.
