DLSL´s Marketing and PR Congress Talks on Market Innovation

10 December 2011. De La Salle Lipa´s 2nd Regional Marketing and Public Relations Congress unfold the latest trends in market innovation among business practitioners and college students in the CALABARZON Region. Attended by over 1400 participants, this year´s theme, "Innovative Marketing and PR: Capturing the Market of the 21st Century," focused on innovative marketing through product innovation, integrated marketing communications, social media, and advocacy campaigns. 

In his welcome message, DLSL President Br. Joaquin Martinez FSC, D. Min. mentioned the importance of this congress´ theme as the Filipino market eyes for innovation, creativity and resourcefulness. With the roster of speakers of the 2nd congress, he extended his warm welcome to them for taking time out from their busy schedule and sharing their creativity and gift in promoting the country through their own products, principles and advocacies. 

The first topic "Media and Ethics: Shaping the PR Strategies" was presented by Mr. Ronnie Azurin, Foreign Desk Officer of TV5, in behalf of their News Operations Head, Mr. David Jude Sta. Ana, who was under the weather during that day. He presented the code of ethics of TV 5 and the professionalism needed, especially among journalists. 

The founder of www.ourawesomeplanet.com, Mr. Anton Diaz, presented the second topic, "Strategic Use of Social Media." He discussed in depth the role of social media networks in creating viral marketing in promoting the products and services. Mr. Diaz worked in Procter and Gamble Philippines for 13 years as the Chief Information Officer before he decided to take his blog, Our Awesome Planet, to the next level in 2008. 

"Building Teams for Innovative Marketing" was the first session in the afternoon presented by the Chief Disturber of Businessworks Inc., the Chief Trainer of Inspire Leadership Consultancy, and the radio host of "Magbago Tayo," Mr. Anthony Pangilinan. In his presentation, he extensively discussed how team works in Marketing Innovation. Apart from being a leadership guru, his healthy lifestyle as a triathlete helped him in building teams vis-à-vis culture building. 

The Chief Executive Officer of Rappler Inc., the former CNN lead investigative reporter, and ABS-CBN´s former news operations head, Ms. Maria Ressa, talked on "Social Media for Social Change." Being an Asian journalist for 25 years, her experience in covering violence and terrorism and the role played by social media in creating social change was discussed. She also shared how these events transformed the role of media, and the impact created by these occurrences to social change. 

Mr. Simplicio "Jun" Umali Jr., the President of Gardenia Bakeries Philippines and the 2011 Agora Awardee in the category of Outstanding Man of Marketing Management, discussed "Market Innovation: Thinking Out Of The Box." His presentation showed Gardenia Bakeries´ success in product innovation and in marketing the product nationwide. As a marketing professor at the De La Salle-College of St. Benilde, he imparted key notes on excelling in the country´s baking industry. 

The 2nd Regional Marketing and PR Congress also highlight DLSL homegrown talents: the DLSL Voices, the Salindayaw Dance Company, Bandista, Ms. Aubrey Caraan, and Mr. Paul John Villanueva. Masters of ceremonies were Atty. Emerito Enginco, Dean of College of Law and Mr. Arnold Capuloy, Presidential Management Offices Director.
