1st CALABARZON Statistics & Research Forum

In a collaborative effort and initiative between Statistical Research Training Center, Regional Development Council and De La Salle Lipa, the First CALABARZON Statistics and Research Forum was successfully held last December 11 at the Diokno Auditorium of Sen. Jose Diokno Hall.

The participants were introduced and duly acknowledged by Ms. C.J.R. Betia of NEDA IV-A. After which Dr. Corzaon Abansi, Vice-Chancellor for Research and Academics, formally welcomed all the attendees in the commencement of the event. A couple of messages from Dir. Severino C. Santos of NEDA IV-A and Dir. Leonida S. Calagui of CHED IV-A followed.

On the first session of plenary, Dir. Cynthia S. Regalado of NSCB discussed the Philippines statistical system followed by Dir. Gervacio G. Selda, Jr. of SRTC who presented the statistical training programs and work opportunities. The open forum was facilitated by Mr. Donald James D. Gawe of NEDA IV-A.

Subsequently, the first breakout session in three different venues simultaneously took place. Ms. Tran T. Ha My of BSU presented the “Assessment on Selected Government Expenditures and Governance Indicators as they Affect the Corruption in the Philippines” with Mr. Ariel O. Iglesia of DILG as discussant. Ms. Angelica G. Gumapac and Mr. Wendel C. Dinglasan both presented “Explaining FDI-Trade-Growth Nexus using Bhagwati Hypothesis: Evidence from the Philippines” where Dr. Edwin A. Balila of AUP was the discussant. Another topic presented was the “Pre-need Assessment of CAS Adopted Barangay” by Ms. Julie E. Avila of SLSU-Lucban with Dir. Chairto C. Armonia of NSO and Mr. Eduardo M. Lacap, Jr. of URS as the discussants. Ms. Charito O. Bautista of NSO served as the session moderator while Ms. Agnes A. Daantos of NEDA IV-A monitored the sessions.

On the second breakout session of the program, Mr. Leandro A. Dalhag of BSU presented “Peace Advocacy among Administrators, Faculty and College Students of Batangas Sate University” while Ms. Emily Lambio of OPAPP served as the discussant. Presenting the topic “De La Salle Lipa’s Share in the One Million Trees and Beyond Project of De La Salle Philippines: Its Current Achievements, Challenges and Opportunities” was Mr. Bernardo C. Lunar of DLSL and Dr. Merlinda R. Manila of DENR was the discussant. “Effect of Government Spending to the Standard of Living of the Philippines and the United States” was the topic presented by Mr. Gemar C. Perez of BSU, serving discussant was Dr. Alice T. Valerio of DLSU-Dasmariñas. The session moderator was Ms. Aletheia G. Canubas of UPLB-CDC and Mr. Jedel E.M. Tabamo of NEDA IV-A was session monitor.

The last leg of the plenary was conducted by Ms. Teresita G. Abad of PSA where she tackled “Organization of the Philippines statistical association.”

Dir. Alexander R. Madrigal of DOST IV-A officially concluded the program with his closing remarks.

Masters of ceremony were Mr. Donald D. Gawe in the morning session and Ms. Marineil Alilei A. Bonot in the afternoon session.
