  The Course
:

The program is a lighter version of Computer Science, with most of the relevant major subjects involved. Students are given an introduction to Information Technology as a whole, then given training in programming. They are then given instruction in programming languages such as C and C++ and exposed to the Internet and its exciting new possibilities as exemplified by tools such as VBScript and JavaScript. Moreover, the students are encouraged to go into web development by training in HTML and graphics design. Because Information Technology is a diverse field, the students are also given the basics of database development and programming. Finally, since I.T. is best made use of by the business world, the students are given training in basic business and management subjects.

  Major Subjects

Introduction to Information Technology (3 units)
This subject aims to equip the individual with the various concepts regarding personal computers, networking (the Internet, intranet, extranet), multimedia, PC viruses, etc. In addition, the student will be taught the basic skills in the following software applications: 1) MS Office (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint); 2) Graphics (Corel Draw and Corel Paint); and 3) Desktop Publishing (PageMaker). Through this familiarization with the use of various software, the student is expected to become intuitive in the use of any application software available on the PC.

Effective Presentations (3 Units)
The objective of the subject is to equip the the participant with the necessary speaking skills required in making high-impact presentations. In this subject, students will not only be given guidelines on how to speak but will also orient them with the concepts in the preparation of effective presentation shows through the proper combination and positioning of materials, i.e. text, graphics and other objects, used for presentation.

Page Layout and Graphic Design (3 Units)
In this course, students will be taught the various page layout and design concepts with the use of the desktop publishing software, Adobe’s PageMaker. Graphic design will focus on the preparation of various graphic forms (bitmap, vector) through the use of Corel Draw and Core Paint.

Internet 1 (3 Units)
The objective of this course is to teach students the use of the Internet and its various protocols, including web sites. The focus of the course is the preparation of effective and well-laid out web pages through the use of the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML)

Internet 2 (3 Units)
This subject will teach students advanced programming techniques relevant to the Internet. These advance programming techniques include the preparation of applets which are vital to the creation of more dynamic and more communication-efficient web sites.

Introduction to Programming (6 Units)
This subject will familiarize the students with the basic commands and structures in preparing computer programs. It also includes the development of logic formulation through exposure to basic programming problems. In this course, students will be having lectures and exercises to learn the necessary tools and gain the necessary experience in formulating solutions to computer programming problems. To further enhance and accelerate the learning of the students, hands-on exercises in the laboratory will be done.

Programming Language 1 (3 Units)/Programming Language 2 (3 Units)
In this subjects, the students will learn and master a computer language (one for each subject) currently being used in industry. They will be familiarized with the strengths and weaknesses of each language through actual programming exercises, including database management. At the end of the subject, the students will have programmed software applications.

Systems Analysis and Design (3 Units)
System Analysis and design is conducted for every new system prior to the actual coding of programs by programmers. This subject will familiarize the students with techniques on how to analyze, design and evaluate computer systems and databases using various SAD tools.
