    First Reading Summit
    Project K sponsored the First Reading Summit, which was held at the MTDC Auditorium in De La Salle Lipa on 10 March 2004. The school heads of public elementary schools, PTA presidents and barangay leaders of Lipa City attended the event. Mayor Vilma Santos Recto and Vice Mayor Boy Manguera graced the event, motivating the participants, especially the barangay leaders. The presence and message of Dr. Nene Guevara of Synergeia Foundation created a great impact on the participants. Her sincerity and passion for educational reform in the Philippines was clearly felt. As a result, a Task Force was formed to accelerate the reform towards better reading proficiency among the pupils of Lipa City. The different committees took an oath to focus on three areas, namely, project sustainability and institutionalization, community and parent involvement, and performance of students and teachers.
