LIPA CITY, Philippines – Preparing for its fully online offering for SY 2020-2021, De La Salle Lipa has begun distribution today, 11 June 2020, of six hundred sixty-five (665) units of Pocket Wi-fi with 35G data sim to all its Lasallian Partners (LPs), comprising of faculty and staff.
In the “new normal” brought by the COVID19 pandemic, Lasallian Partners (LPs) were driven to work from home (WFH) beginning early March. Correspondingly, this meant the use of digital services at home to maintain the productivity and efficiency of teaching and campus operations in the service of the many stakeholders – students, parents, external partners – of the school. This mode greatly calls for the use of internet services at home to support their roles and functions for the institution. In a survey on quality of internet connectivity, although 78% of the Lasallian Partners indicated “Good” to “Excellent” connection, there were 22% who needed to be assisted. Championing inclusion as part of its strategic directions, and to ensure seamless access to teaching and work tools, the institution will provide its full-time Lasallian Partners with mobile internet connection.
Specifically, the initiative offers an opportunity for the LPs to enjoy additional internet service to have access to powerful learning tools such as the school’s Learning Management System (powered by Canvas), emails, collaboration and meeting Apps, Office 365 and other school-endorsed platforms for dynamic digital and campus experience anytime, anywhere. It also aims to allow them to navigate technology and innovation initiatives globally, innovate teaching/learning encounters and business processes, undertake online capability development programs and extend the performance of their roles on-campus into the digital space. It also opens up real-time engagement with peers.
In addition, as safety remains to be an important thrust of the school, the school has coordinated with various pick-up points – other than the school – for ease of distribution of the pocket wi-fi units to the LPs. Pick up points in Lipa, Batangas, and Sta. Rosa have been coordinated with its personnel. If none of these are near, the LP is given the option to choose a courier for the delivery of the units to their own homes.
