Lasallian Cup, one of the much-awaited events of the De La Salle Lipa’s (DLSL) colleges has finally commenced at the DLSL Sentrum last November 4, 2019.
With this year’s Avatar-themed competition, 4 nations (Fire, Water, Earth, and Air) paraded on the battleground with their respective teams. The Earth CBEAM (College of Business, Accountancy and Management) the 4th time Defending Champion was eager to hold the title against its rivals Fire CITE (College of Information Technology and Engineering), Water CEAS (College of Education, Arts and Sciences) and Air CIHTM-CON (College of International Hospitality and Tourism Management and College of Nursing). According to Karl Adrian Tolentino Chairman of the SPG Lasallian Cup Committee, this year’s Lasallian Cup was different from the previous years as this was the first time that Filipino traditional games were played such as Luksong Bangka and Patintero. He said that they chose the Avatar theme for this year to have a bolder and stronger competition compared to the previous years.
The Opening Ceremony was adorned with colors of the 4 elements that each college represents. The Sentrum floor was bedazzled by dance numbers from the Salindayaw Dance Group and the breath-taking performance of the Danzcom Pepsquad. Team Captains of each college led the symbolical torch lighting and took their Oath of Sportsmanship. Mr. Welmer Adajar, Student Services Director, officially announced the Cup open. Lucas Garcia, a former student of DLSL and the 1st runner-up in national singing competition Idol Philippines 2019 rendered a few songs that wowed the crowd. Mr. and Ms. Lasallian Cup 2019 candidates were also introduced and strut their way to the catwalk.
The crowd’s cheers went louder when the cheer dance competition began. An air of rivalry could be smelled in the Sentrum when the four College representatives gave their all during their cheer dance numbers. Students and Lasallian Partners were pouring their hearts out cheering for their teams. In the end Fire CITE, who performed a disco retro-themed production, proved that they were indeed on fire when they were announced as Champion, seconded by CBEAM and followed by CEAS and CIHTM-CON.
The overall winners of the Cup, together with Mr. and Ms. Lasallian Cup were then announced on November 8, with CITE snatching the crown from CBEAM; the latter tagging along in second place. CIHTM-CON ranked third, while CEAS placed last.
CIHTM-CON (Dale Fernan Castillo), on the other hand, was crowned as Mr. LS Cup, while CEAS (Qyzel Sapitanan) bagged the Ms. LS Cup title. 1st runners-up were Ms. CIHTM-CON Yliana Caguimbal and Mr. CEAS Ken Ryu De Alday.
