The whole nation prepares itself for a ‘New Normal’ as a result of the global pandemic. Among the most affected by this transformation is the education sector – schools, students, parents, and teachers. Thus, stakeholders must also be ready in coping with this unexpected shift.
College of Law Goes Online
In line with the launching of De La Salle Lipa’s “Borderfree Education” program, the DLSL College of Law will go fully online starting the first semester of SY 2020-2021. To begin with, it embraces BORDERFREE LEARNING powered by the Borderfree Learning Management System (powered by Canvas). MS OFFICE 365 will serve as external application.
For the last three years, De La Salle Lipa has been updating its network infrastructure to drive forward its digital campus initiatives. All these efforts are expected to boost the delivery of online education online in light of numerous restrictions posed by the outbreak.
The College of Law’s first semester commences on August 24, 2020 until January 23, 2021. Online enrollment for incoming first year JD students (or JD1s) has begun on June 23 (Monday) and ends on August 29 (Saturday).
Beginnings and Mission
DLSL’s College of Law was instituted in 2010 seeking to provide quality legal education in the region and adjacent localities. In just a decade, it has already received various accolades from the Legal Education Board for its sterling performance in the Bar Examinations. In fact, the College garnered a 100% passing percentage for its bar examinees in 2016.
The College of Law’s commitment is to educate students in the law as well as encourage them to have faith in God. It will also guide them to have a sense of community, create in them a realization of existing societal conditions, and empower them to serve others, especially the poor and the youth at risk.
Juris Doctor Program
Its flagship program is the Juris Doctor (JD) Program referring to an enhanced law degree which counts on the participation of the DLSL JD Community in an internship stint, successful defense of the JD Thesis, and passing of elective subjects on top of the Legal Education Board (or LEB) – prescribed JD curriculum.
Lasallian Formation Courses
These formation courses have become an integral component of the Juris Doctor Curriculum. These courses are taught every semester from the 1st year (or JD1) until the 3rd year (or JD3). The modules encompass fields or disciplines which include the Founder and His Legacy, Christian Anthropology and Spirituality, Moral Perspective on the Law, Evangelization and Education, Christian Perspectives on Social Institutions, and Social Doctrines of the Church.
Master Classes and Integration Sessions
DLSL has harnessed the expertise of the JD Law Faculty along with luminaries in the legal academe, legal and judicial professions to bolster the theoretical and practical knowledge of the DLSL JD Community. The Masterclasses and Integration Sessions were formulated to augment courses offered in the JD Curriculum.
