De La Salle Lipa (DLSL) is one with the entire nation in commemorating this year’s Women’s Month.
School administrators, Lasallian Partners, students, and parents recognized the role Filipino women play in fighting Covid-19 along with gender issues aggravated by the pandemic.
DLSL’s student organizations have several activities lined up like the social media posting by the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines, DLSL Student Chapter on the Online Advocacy: Women Empowerment from March 8-13. The organization will be posting pictures and trivia regarding honorable women that have made essential contributions to the development of society, specifically in the field of science and technology.
Last March 1, the Lasallian League of Nurses (LLN) also launched its own social media campaign to showcase the importance of women by writing a gratitude message with the hashtag #BABAEhindibabaelang! along with a photo of a woman whom they deem significant in their lives. The organization aims to promote women appreciation and empowerment for the important individuals of the society.
On March 3, the LLN followed this up with a series of recorded testimonies on women’s experiences about Women Empowerment. Participants with different specialties were requested to send a testimony of 3 to 5 sentences of their topic or advocacy pertaining to Women Empowerment in which will be posted on the Lasallian League of Nurses’ Facebook Page, Instagram, and Twitter Accounts.
Meanwhile, the Lasallian Alliance of Youth Advocates for Equality will hold another activity from March 29 to 31 to feature exceptional individuals who identify themselves as a woman and to promote women empowerment through nominating individuals who become an inspiration to someone.
Similar activities will likewise be conducted by the Discipline Marshals today and the Stallion Drive from March 22 to 26.
The Student Coordinating Board, on the other hand, will be holding another run of Radyo Lasalyano and will feature women role models. Integrated School students shall host the said program.
The 2021 National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC) is a “tribute, platform, and call to action highlighting the exceptional role of ordinary Juanas in modern society as trailblazers and forerunners of change.”
This observance also serves as a venue for discussing and addressing problems that women continue to face so they can fully attain empowerment. Likewise, the campaign calls for concrete, sustainable and wide-ranging actions in a bid to achieve gender equality.
Meanwhile, March 8 was chosen as International Women’s Day (IWD) to mark the accomplishments of women, raise awareness on women’s equality and push for accelerated gender parity. It is considered a global day to remember the social, economic, political, and cultural achievements of all women in different countries.
This year’s campaign theme is called “Choose to Challenge.” A challenged world is an alert world. Besides, challenge comes from change, hence, this slogan.
The colors – purple, green, and white were chosen because Purple stands for justice and dignity. On the other hand, green indicates hope and white embodies purity. These colors came from the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) in the United Kingdom in 1908.
To lend support for IWD, De La Salle Lipa is encouraging everyone to adopt the #ChooseToChallenge advocacy. Also, it urges concerned individuals to post using the hashtag mentioned and #IWD2021.
DLSL has always been a champion of women’s rights and an advocate of gender equality. It calls on Filipinas to strengthen their efforts to improve and watch the progress of the implementation of the Magna Carta for Women.
