De La Salle Lipa (DLSL) participated in the virtual General Assembly and Computer Engineering (CpE) Challenge organized by the Institute of Computer Engineers of the Philippines Region IVA (ICpEP-IVA) with the theme, “Igniting Dreams. Seeking Opportunities. Breaking Limits” last November 13. The event was held from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. via Zoom.
The ICpEP.SE Student Edition is a student chapter of the ICpEP, which links academics to various colleges and universities. Each year, general assemblies and CpE challenges are held for different schools in Region-IV A to take part in. The DLSL Computer Engineering Department has been affiliated with ICpEP since 2014.
General Assembly and CpE Challenge
The day started with the General Assembly – Virtual Contact among ICpEP Members (Students and Professionals) and Seminar on Computer Engineering Fields. It was followed by the regional election among ICpEP 4A student active members.
The CpE Challenge featured E-games and Programming Competition (morning session), Quiz Bowl and Pitching Competition (afternoon session). Incidentally, the winners will represent the ICpEP 4A to the ICpEP National Competition this month.
Among the winners for the Programming Competition were Moises Magadia, C Programming champion, Elaine Callope C++Programming champion, Yannick Velasquez Java Programming 1st runner-up, and Python Programming Gherrmonde Nunez 1st runner-up. They were coached by Engr. Mary Tenoso.
DLSL’s Pitching Competition contenders composed of Lawrence Castillo, Alliah Samonte, and Mark Perez also emerged as champion. Their coach was Engr. Aisa Mijeno.
For the Quiz Bowl Competition, the DLSL team took 2nd-runner up honors under Engr. Cherrie Villafuerte. The members were Gwyneth Moster, Jireh Rementilla, and Reniel Repollo.
Finally, DLSL also was awarded champion in the Mobile Legends Competition. The team members were Hans Lim, Reinard Ruiz, Romeo Ong, Andrew Javier, and Mark Mendoza, who was named MVP.
The champions will be the region’s representatives for the National Competition event.
Aside from DLSL, the other participants included San Juan De Letran – Calamba, Batangas State University, Lyceum of Batangas, National University Dasmarinas, Pamantasan ng Cabuyao, Southern Luzon State University, STI Lucena, and University of Perpetual Help System Laguna.
