To recognize outstanding student leaders, volunteers, faculty, staff members and student organizations for their exemplary performance in Academic Year 2019-2020 and to champion the partnership and shared mission of each accredited organization, the Council of Student Organizations (CSO) held its first virtual Gawad Lasalyano last July 3, 2020, with the theme “The Road Not Taken.”
The most awaited award ceremony for the student-leaders of the college community holistically develops Lasallian students into more socially and professionally conscious individuals who are driven and guided by the institution’s four Strategic Directions. Gawad Lasalyano is annually organized by the Council of Student Organizations and the Student Government.
This year, the event was inspired by an optimist poem from Robert Frost entitled ‘The Road Not Taken.’ The central theme of the event depicts student leaders’ outstanding move of taking risks for service despite facing unexpected challenges like a volcanic eruption and a pandemic. This theme replaced the planned ‘modern Filipiniana’ motif in celebration of the rich history of the Philippines incorporation in the age of modernization, which was foregone due to recent developments.
The online event started with the opening prayer and was followed by opening remarks from the head of the College Student Activities Offices, Mr. Protacio Mea, and from the Director of Student Services, Mr. Welmer Adajar. The awarding began with the Minor Merits: from Merit for Organization, Presidency, and Adviser. Green Spirit awards were also given to the Lasallian Youth Volunteers who took part in the apprenticeship program. These were followed by Major Merits, FSC Awards, and this year’s Top Division Organizations.
Lasallian League of Nurses bagged three major awards including Top 1 PROF Organization, Excellence Award for Organization Presidency, and Outstanding Organization Officer. From SCRO Division, Les Lasallian Lumieres dominated five major awards including Top 1 SCRO Organization, Beacon of Communion, Outstanding Organization Advocacy, Excellence Award for Organization Presidency, and Outstanding Organization Officer. Meanwhile, for the SPIN Division, Samahan ng Lasalyanong Retratista captured the Top 1 SPIN Organization, Beacon of Communion, and Outstanding Organization Officer awards.
This exclusive online event marked the end of the term of the current officers of every organization as it acknowledged their sacrifices and efforts and opened a beginning of another journey. Indeed, Gawad Lasalyano is a testimony of student-leaders’ victory of the road not taken by many.
