Reference
With that the Tertiary School Library was also constructed. By that time the library was still small, consisting of four (4) tables, five (5) shelves and a collection of only 500 volumes of books and a few titles of magazines and newspapers. It had a seating capacity of only 32 individuals.
The high school librarian served as the concurrent tertiary school librarian. In 1987 however, a full-time librarian, Ms. Gloria Panggat Lumbera, was hired to develop the library, its services and collection.
In 1996, the College Library was transferred to the ground floor of then newly constructed Sen. Jose Diokno Building. Its floor area was expanded to seat 240 individuals. Library collections were increased and audio-visual materials were procured. In addition, an internet laboratory was provided to meet the community’s need for relevant information and for research assistance.
In 1999, the library was divided into three sections – periodicals, technical, and audio-visual – to better respond to its objectives. Three full time librarians were appointed to oversee these areas along with a head librarian who supervises the entire operations.
In April 2003, Ms. Eileen Magadia was designated as the Head Librarian of the College Library. The library was later referred to as the Learning Resource Center (LRC). The LRC underwent evaluation for Level 1 accreditation of the two Tertiary School programs.
The LRC was further expanded to meet the needs of the increasing number of enrollees. Its seating capacity was increased to 400. The audio- visual section was transferred to the third level of the Sen. Jose Diokno Building along with the Lipasalliana archives which was added to the LRC’s revised organizational set-up. The Nursing Library, an extension library was likewise put up at the Mabini Building . LRC personnel increased and improved with four registered librarians, one archivist, and six library clerks.
De La Salle Lipa College LRC continues and will continue to pursue its mission to serve the Lasallian family and other people who seek assistance for their reading, research and instructional needs.
The College Learning Resource Center (CLRC) supports the school’s academic programs by providing a venue that is conducive to studying, reading books and periodicals, and viewing films and other educational electronic resources.
The De La Salle Lipa College Learning Resource Center (CLRC) provides a wide range of library and information technology resources, serving as responsive partner with faculty, staff and students in teaching, learning, and research in pursuit of academic excellence guided with its rules and regulations.
The collections consist of about 38,000 books, audio visual materials (transparencies, slides, DVD, CD-ROM, VHS, etc.), equipment (OHP, LCD, Laptop, digicam, DVD camera, video camera, etc.) Periodicals, pamphlets, theses and other related information files such as clippings, newsletters,, annual reports, etc. are maintained. These are searchable through OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) and maintained to access the open shelves collection. Books are classified according to Dewey Decimal Classification System. Also available are the card catalog in case of power interruption. It also has an internet laboratory with a total of 80 computer units and a separate library and professional collections for nursing students and law students.
The College LRC is an institutional PAARL (Philippine Association of Academic and Research Libraries) member and NOCEI Library committee member.
