Whenever the month of September comes, many of us Filipinos immediately think of the upcoming holidays and celebrations. It’s the time of the year when we start prepping for a hectic holiday season.
However, September holds significance beyond that. Back in 2004, then-President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo declared September as National Peace Consciousness Month. It’s a time of great importance for us members of the Lasallian community and it takes on a greater meaning here in 2020.
Promoting Peace in the Time of a Pandemic
For this year, the United Nations revealed that the theme for the International Day of Peace (September 21) would be “Shaping Peace Together.” It’s a message we can all get behind here at De La Salle Lipa.
Now is not the time for division, for conflict, or for anger. We all have a common enemy and it is none other than COVID-19.
In the spirit of National Peace Consciousness Month, we encourage all members of the De La Salle Lipa community to stand united as we continue to deal with the unique challenges of this pandemic. Let us shape peace together by watching out for one another and keeping each other’s safety in mind as we go about our daily lives.
Though this pandemic has forced us to remain apart, we can still continue to stay united in mind, heart, and spirit.
How We Can Continue to Spread the Message of Peace
We understand that standing physically united at this time is difficult because of social distancing, but you can continue to promote peace online.
Here at De La Salle Lipa, several students and organizations have taken the initiative. They are taking Peace Pledges and making it known that they are committed to the cause of unity during this most difficult of times by spreading the word via their Facebook and Instagram accounts. Please feel free to share your Peace Pledge as well.
All Lasallian Partners and students who want to join in on the conversation about spreading peace are also encouraged to participate in our online forums. Make your voice heard and let it be known that you remain a messenger of peace!
