The Philippine Native Plants Conservation Society Inc. (PNPCSI) is a non-profit, non-government organization in the Philippines advocating for conservation of native flora and their natural habitats, founded in 2007 by botanist Leonardo L. Co. One of our signature programs is the conduct of a biennial international symposium to highlight contemporary research on Philippine plant diversity and conservation, and stimulate dialogue among members of the global academic community and various stakeholders.
This year, PNPCSI will be holding its 6th International Symposium with the theme, “Saving the Plants that Save Us: Conservation of Native Flora Amidst Calamities.” We’ll be exploring not only how native flora protect us from and sustain us through disasters, but also how these calamities and the on-going global health crisis have been affecting conservation work.
For the first time ever, the symposium will be conducted entirely online, in consideration of the current and continuing pandemic situation in the country. While challenging in many ways, this online format will allow us to bring our advocacy and our science to a wider audience than ever before.
